Powering Africa’s Future
One Megawatt at a Time
Crestmont Energy deploys patient capital into clean energy infrastructure across sub-Saharan Africa — delivering reliable power, lasting impact, and competitive risk-adjusted returns.
Africa’s Energy Access Gap is the World’s Largest Investment Opportunity
Over 600 million people across sub-Saharan Africa lack access to reliable electricity. We believe this is not just a development crisis — it is a generational investment opportunity.
Crestmont Energy is a dedicated platform for deploying institutional capital into clean energy infrastructure: solar, wind, mini-grids, battery storage, and grid modernization projects that change lives while generating durable, risk-adjusted returns.
We combine deep project development expertise, strong government relationships, and sophisticated blended finance structures to make deals bankable in markets where conventional capital stops short.
The Gap is Vast. The Opportunity is Extraordinary.
Africa’s energy deficit is structural and chronic — not seasonal. Grid infrastructure is decades behind demand, and the pace of population growth is outrunning supply. Yet the continent has the world’s best renewable energy resources and some of its most favourable solar irradiation levels.
Private capital, structured correctly, is the only instrument that can close this gap at the pace required. Crestmont Energy exists to channel that capital with precision.
An Integrated Approach to Energy Investment
From project origination through operations, our end-to-end platform reduces friction at every stage — bringing more deals to financial close, faster.
Finding Opportunities Others Miss
Our on-the-ground teams across East and West Africa maintain government relationships and local networks that surface pipeline opportunities before they reach the open market.
We focus on projects in markets with strong policy frameworks, improving regulatory environments, and demonstrable demand — including C&I solar, utility-scale renewables, and rural electrification.
- Proprietary deal sourcing via offices in Nairobi and Lagos
- Government concession and tender advisory
- Community and land rights negotiation support
- Environmental and social due diligence

Making Projects Bankable
The majority of promising African energy projects fail not from lack of resources, but from lack of appropriate financing structures. Our financial engineers build bespoke capital stacks that de-risk projects for institutional investors.
We leverage DFI concessional capital, grant funding, and first-loss facilities alongside commercial debt and equity to unlock deals that would otherwise remain stranded.
- Blended finance architecture and DFI engagement
- PPA and offtake agreement negotiation
- Currency risk and sovereign guarantee structures
- Financial modelling and lender’s due diligence support

Turning Concepts into Operating Assets
We co-develop projects from early-stage concept through commercial operation, managing technical, regulatory, and construction risk on behalf of investors.
Our engineering partnerships and local contractor networks give us supply chain relationships needed to keep projects on time and on budget.
- Technical feasibility and site assessment
- Permitting and grid interconnection management
- EPC contractor procurement and supervision
- Construction monitoring and commissioning

Protecting Returns Through Disciplined Oversight
Post-commissioning, our asset management team actively monitors performance, manages counterparty risk, and ensures environmental and social compliance across the portfolio.
Investors receive regular reporting, independent technical assessments, and responsive portfolio management throughout the asset lifecycle.
- Real-time performance monitoring and SCADA integration
- O&M contractor oversight and KPI management
- ESG impact measurement and reporting (GHG, SDG alignment)
- Refinancing and exit strategy optimization

Clean Energy Technologies We Deploy
Our technology-agnostic approach allows us to deploy the most appropriate solution for each market context — from utility-scale solar to off-grid mini-grids serving remote communities.

Utility-Scale Solar PV
Large-scale solar farms (10MW–300MW) connected to national grids, backed by long-term PPAs with sovereign or creditworthy corporate offtakers.
IPP / Grid-Scale
Onshore Wind
Wind installations in high-resource corridors across East and Southern Africa, providing low-cost baseload generation to complement solar.
Onshore Wind
Solar Mini-Grids
Decentralized solar-plus-storage mini-grids electrifying rural communities, paired with productive use applications and micro-enterprise support.
Off-Grid / Rural Access
C&I Solar
Behind-the-meter and wheeling solar solutions for commercial and industrial customers — reducing energy costs and providing backup power across Africa.
Commercial & Industrial
Battery Storage (BESS)
Grid-scale battery storage enabling firmed renewable energy — improving grid stability and enabling higher penetration of variable renewables.
Grid Stability
Grid & Transmission
Transmission line upgrades, substation modernization, and smart grid investments enabling renewable projects to connect and deliver power at scale.
InfrastructureSelected Projects Across the Continent
A sample of the energy transactions we have originated, structured, and delivered for investors and communities across Africa.

Rift Valley Solar IPP
50MW utility-scale solar park under a 20-year PPA, reducing energy costs for 200,000+ households.

Niger Delta Mini-Grid Cluster
18 solar-plus-storage mini-grids electrifying 40,000 rural households, paired with productive use financing.

Southern Highlands Wind Farm
100MW onshore wind project targeting financial close with IFC and AfDB participation in 2025.
Blended Finance that Unlocks What Others Can’t
We use blended finance to de-risk projects and attract commercial capital into markets where the perceived risk premium exceeds the actual project risk. By layering concessional and grant capital alongside commercial instruments, we make deals work.
Our relationships with the World Bank Group, IFC, African Development Bank, DFC, and European DFIs give us preferential access to concessional facilities that reduce the cost of capital and improve risk-adjusted returns for commercial co-investors.

Africa does not have an energy problem — it has a capital access problem. Crestmont Energy exists to solve that, one bankable deal at a time.
Trusted Financing Partners
We co-invest alongside the world’s leading development finance institutions and impact investors.
Investment Criteria
We are selective — focusing on projects where our origination capability, structuring expertise, and local presence create the greatest edge.
Geography
Primary focus on sub-Saharan Africa — Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, Ethiopia, Senegal, and Côte d’Ivoire. Secondary markets evaluated case-by-case.
Project Size
Equity tickets of $5M–$75M per project. Total project costs typically $15M–$200M. Open to minority and majority positions; preference for co-control rights.
Technology
Solar PV (utility, C&I, mini-grid), onshore wind, battery storage (BESS), small hydropower, and hybrid systems. Technology-agnostic where risk profile supports it.
Return Profile
Target equity IRR of 15%–22% USD net. Blended structures can lower the hurdle where DFI concessional capital is available alongside commercial co-investment.
Stage & Structure
Active across development (greenfield), construction, and operating assets. Preference for projects with secured land, advanced permitting, and credible offtake frameworks.
Impact Requirements
All investments must demonstrate clear energy access or fossil fuel displacement, with measurable SDG alignment and robust ESMS frameworks from day one.
